I have an older sears craftsman 1/2 horsepower garage door opener. It is chain driven. The motor will run but the gear that moves the chain won't turn. It may be time to buy a new one? I'm not sure what is wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

Stan I think we had the same problem, I'll ask DH when he comes in from plowing.

Remove the cover of the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and is most likely stripped. It is available at any good opener service company and comes with instructions.
