Facia and plywood moisture problems on porch

I have been battling this problem for years. My front porch has always had problems with the fascia and the gutters. The rain goes behind the gutter and onto the fascia. Gutters clean, got plenty of fall. Years ago my husband had vinyl put on the house and the metal covering the fascia. Still have the problem. Had a roofer look at it and the shingles were not hanging over long enough, he fixed that. No drip edge. Live in Ga so don't have much problem with freezing. Now when it rains the water drips from the metal covering the fascia at the joints and the plywood on the porch ceiling looks terrible. It is rotting and paint looking rough. There are vents in the ceiling. I am not sure what to do next. I want to fix the ceiling but no need until I fix the water problem. I had someone say to put a roll of caulking just under the roofing edge and it would stop the water from going behind the gutter. Would that be something to try?

NO! That only leads to more problems. There is no substitude for properly installed roofing and gutters.

Replacing with a product like Fypon--or similar--would resolve the problem forever. Fypon-like products are great for an issue like this. Anytime you're replacing a rotted gutterboard or even something like the bottom of a garage door jamb, composite products are the answer. Talk to you local lumberyard about the options.

green-zeus, like I mentioned on the post the akamainegrower linked, without fixing the water problem Fypon, Azek, anything is a temporary bandaid.

They used to make integral gutter+drip edge systems that went under the shingles so there was no way for water to get into the cornice. Problem was, it was not very simple to get the gutters to have any pitch for drainage.
On gable roofs, the rake drip edge (and fascia) leads water down to the corners, where it can miss being caught by the gutter, and get in and follow the soffit for some distance. So maybe that's what's happening.
