Ceiling cracks

Posted by n1buckeye (My Page) on

I recently bought a new two story modular home. The second floor is not finished. Since the weather has gotten cold we are seeing cracks in the finished ceiling of the first floor. Most of the cracks are occurring in the seams of the drywall. Are these cracks being caused by the varying temps of the first and second floor. Or is there some other issue I should be concerned with. Thank you for any input.

RE: Ceiling cracks

How new is the new home? If it was framed with green wood, you may be experiencing shrinkage due to the wood drying out. Another possibility is that they might have taped the joints with fiberglass tape and not used a setting compound on top.
