| A number of interior doors were changed in our house, but were never finished so they are bare wood. The doors are solid pine six panel doors and are probably 5 years old. There is some dirt on the sirfaces from use over the years, mostly near the knob and at the edge from people pushuing them open and closed. The trim is original (house built in the early 60's) and is laquered/varished not painted. I figure I can find a stain close enough to match the trim. I looking for direction/recommendations on prep work before stainig. Should I wash the bare wood? Should I just sand everything? Any help is appreciated. |

| Don't wash the wood - sand it. Wetting the wood will raise the grain. Pine is soft and may absorb too much stain - and be very dark - especially seen on edges of the raised panels. Whatever stain you buy, you should get a compatible stain sanding sealer. |

| Pine can get very blotchy when staining it. I have stained many pine doors and always use a wood conditioner prior to staining. There are several different brands available at paint stores and big box stores. |
