Some of the goof-balls we hear about occasionally might not be able to but it's a 15 minute handyman level task.

What I said about ease of repairing a damper does not hold true for compressors and t-stats. Both must be exact replacements and installer must be exceptionally skilled. I feel safe in saying 75% of refrigerators condemed as having a bad compressor are misdiagnoised.

i used to design beverage dispensing equipment. i was the big picture guy. does compressor run and make an ice bank? we had skids of 100's of compressors. used to walk around them all the time. dont work there anymore.

Damper fan? Bad damper?

The refrigerator/freezers that I have worked on have a hand-adjustable damper that you set to keep the freezer at the temp you want it relative to the refrigerator. You get the refrigerator right with the t-stat and the blower supplies the amount of cold air to the freezer that you set with the damper.

Yes and you know what momma said"3 bads don't make a good".

tech said top freezer units do not have dampers. my evap fan should be running wide open at startup. it is only turning 600-800 rpm? i can barely hear it. can even stop it with my finger.
