Q on repairing stone-front house

Hi All,

We would love some input! We have an accepted offer on a lovely stone-front Cape-style house. The house is shingles with a stone front. At our inspection today we found out that the metal over the front windows (that support the stones above the windows) has bowed down. There is some mortar missing around the stones, and there is a diagonal crack going from the top window to the roof line.

The inspector said that this needs to be addressed as it will otherwise progress. This is concerning to use since the stone front of the house is part of what provides the charm. If the mortar and cracks are fixed, the house might always look funny and patched. We also don't know what the costs might be.

Any thoughts on what our options might be, how these repairs tend to look, how much this might cost, etc?

Thanks so much!

Sara
