Child-safe door handles/knobs?

| Hello!
We are shopping for door knobs (or handles) for our new doors, and are told, we'll need to "child-proof" them, for our toddler (currently 1 year old).
This got me thinking, aren't there goods, that are "child-proven" already? Something, that will not be of hideous white plastic and hard to use even for adults?
I don't mind living with these for years, because, with any luck, we'll need them again. And again...
Thanks for advice! doofus |

| Or you can just put cleaning products in a single cabinet and protect that single cabinet. How did we ever survive? |

| You're talking about something that looks like a "regular" door knob but has some kind of additional childproof feature? Can't say I've seen one of those but maybe Google could help. It's not a bad idea in any case. The easiest, cheapest way to lock a door is to use a little hook latch or barrel bolt at the top, above the reach of little fingers. |

doofus- I've got a 9-month-old grandson, so have been helping my daughter figure out what needs to be child-proofed. In researching fixes for regular doorknobs, I couldn't find anything that worked well. There are products out there, but most reviews I read said they don't work well, or the kid managed to either figure them out or take them off. The best fix is some kind of lock at a height the child can't reach. To me the 3 most important things are: 1) the little nylon hooks that you mount in kitchen and bathroom doors and drawers, 2) covers for electric receptacles, and 3) making sure there are no blinds that have cords that a child can get strangled by. If you do a search on, say, Amazon using the term "childproofing products" you will find lots of stuff to consider (and worry about). |

You're talking about something that looks like a "regular" door knob but has some kind of additional childproof feature? Yes... Unfortunately, everything I was able to find are devices, that are in addition to the regular knobs and handles. As additions, they are all inevitable ugly... I was hoping, there could be products out there, that are child-proof by themselves. I guess, the Capitalism didn't get to it yet... |
