paneling or wallboard: insurance pays!

We have leak from exterior of house into our family room, and it has damaged some of our wood painted paneling . The contractor who is doing the repairs said he would have to replace the paneling in the whole room, as our paneling is 30 yr. old and not available. He said he can install new wood paneling or instead, he can put up wallboard. Either would be about the same cost and covered by our insurance.

We are happy with the painted paneling, but is this our chance to just get rid of it? Before I painted the paneling, I would have jumped at this opportunity. But now, painted a linen white, I have been happy with the look. Still, "plaster looking" walls are probably more popular? Our paneling is a wood, mid grade.Thanks.
