There's too much going on with too many granites. Maybe look at some understated estone or solid surface.

Agree. Too much pattern and clashing colors. Needs something engineered injust the right shade of cream to pull it together. The one mucking it up the most is the backsplash. Too many competing undertones clashing. The green and gray cool tones don't work well with the pink and yellow field tile. I'd ditch it if you want granite.

Well luckily I have not bought the backsplash yet either. So I can always change that. I know I want subway tiles with a little decorative accent for the back splash.

Let's ignore the back splash at this time. What color granite would you go with for my cabinet color and wood floor? A darker color or a lighter one?

Do you like a consistent pattern, or a swirly granite? In my previous home, I had dark cherry cabinets, lighter bamboo floors, travertine backsplash with glass accents for the backsplash, and a very bold granite (crema Bordeaux). I loved it the whole time I lived with it (moved in 2012), and didn't think there was "too much going on" at all.

with those cabinets, you could go light or dark granite. if you go dark, say uba tuba or black or steel gray, the pattern is almost solid leaving you some play with the bs ie you can go for wow factor. the nice thing about the darker granites is that they tend to be sturdy/low maintenance.
if you want wow factor from your granite, then i would do a very plain bs so as not to clash.
go to a stoneyard and see what appeals to you or hd/lowes to see what is on display.

Not sure if that link will work. Basically I went to the kitchen photos on Houzz and checked off the options medium hardwood floor, medium finish cabinets, and granite countertop. That way you can see pictures of real kitchens with similar coloring to get an idea of what you like and don't like.
