Calacatta mitered edge

I've recently had a Calacatta marble countertop installed on my island. The fabricator convinced me to do a 2 3/4" laminate (triple laminate) instead of a mitered edge, insisting that the miter is too weak and that it's only for "show kitchens". Then I had a separate fabricator come in to look at a bathroom project, and he told me that's ridiculous. Needless to say, the veining on the laminate doesn't match up & it's horrible. I feel like I was lied to, and that my fabricator didn't want to do the miter because it's more difficult & the marble can break more easily, and it's expensive. My fabricator says no way - it's definitely weaker, and that's why he advised against the miter. Who's right here?
