 o
hanging kitchen cabinets

Are there other ways to hang tall wall kitchen cabinets besides through the top and bottom frame into studs?

I am baffled by some tall cabinets I saw while installing counter undercabinet lights. Too few screws are holding them up, often one per cabinet in the upper frame, and on a couple the frame is cracked where the lone screw is located since they probably weren't pre-drilled with the correct diameter bit (or at all). Look like #12 screws, maybe bigger. No screws visible in the backs of the cabinets, either. I'm surprised they are still on the wall and pointed out the problem to the owner. But since they were up on the wall, they were not concerned. I suppose I could leave it at that, but it's bothering me and these folks have kids and are a good referral source for other handyman jobs. Do I need to press this further?

BTW, there is not a gap behind the cabinets, so I don't think there's any sort of cleat is behind them. These were installed by a builder that did a large remodel for them, but who eventually got thrown since nothing seemed to get done after more than a year behind schedule (first huge job on his own, etc.)

BTW, these are 18" minimum width cabinets. I also tested for some additional studs to add support but didn't find any. Often that lone screw I mentioned was near the cabinet side/corner.

Something link this in the link,(snap toggle), or a standard toggle type anchor can be installed in the stud cavatie when a stud isn't available. You can do this without removing the cabinet. Toggle bolts:

Good point. Keeping them in place, I guess a standard toggle would be the way to go.

I should have also considered something drilled in at 45 degrees if there happens to be a stud between cabinets.
