laundry layout

I'm usually in the kitchen forum but thought this forum might be able to help me.

Iwant to bring my laundry up to the main level of the house. Due to kitchen remodeling there is an area that sits between the kitchen and dining room with a bathroom and other door off of it. There is wall space of 96" on one side. In this area I would love to put a washer and dryer (stacked or side by side front loaders), a broom closet and pantry.

I am looking for ideas, photos or suggestions how to lay this out. Is stacked the way to go or is side by side better because you can have counter space? How to I make the most of this space? We do not want to see the washer and dryer. This area is completely open to the kitchen so it needs to coordinate in some way.

RE: laundry layout

Just off the top of my head:

You'll have a lot better choice of good W/D if you go with putting them side by side. Build them into cabs (high enough for easy pull-out when necessary)with doors to hide them and you're all set.

Depending on your flooring, it might be wise to have an anti-flood pan underneath the washer in case of leaks.
