Whose insurance should cover burglary at remodeling project

We moved out of our house for remodeling and the project is expected to be complete in 2 weeks.

Just had a burglary and lost about $2K worth of stuff.

Should this be covered by contractor's insurance or home owner's insurance?

Home owners.

They may go after the remodeling company if there was negligence on their part(failure to lock doors, etc.)

Who owned the stolen property? Was it materials for the remodel or the contractors tools. If it was their tools I would say their insurance should cover it and not home owners. There is enough evidencde of insurance companies dropping customers for making a claim that you might want to decide whether to file a claim or just take the loss.

Homeowners's insurance covers losses to their own property and their invited worker's or guest's property when it occurs on their own site.

Simply put: Your insurance gets to settle all claims.

My homeowner's didn't cover burglary losses when the house was under renovation. Check your policy. We took the $25K loss on our taxes. The best we could do. On a happy note, the burglars are in jail.
