Thoughts on Jeld-Wen int. doors?

| I'm having a closet rebuilt in a bedroom, and I need to choose some new doors. My washer and dryer will be behind these doors, so I don't want a cheap, hollow door. Are the Jeld-Wen "custom carved" doors a good choice? The brochure touts their MDF construction, but then claims that they have a "lightweight core" which sounds like "hollow" to me. What's your thoughts on these doors?
Thanks! |

| That's the same picture in the brochure. I'm new to doors, so pardon my confusion, it's just when I searched Jeld-Wen doors on here, most people refer to them as solid. This picture implies to me that these are hollow, but maybe I'm missing something. If these are hollow, what would you recommend? I've never seen these in person. Do they feel nice and substantial, or cheap and hollow? Thanks! |

| We just finished expanding the opening to our daughter's closet, using Jeld-Wen solid wood panel double doors. I wanted something to match the doors in the rest of the house, and didn't want plastic or fiberglas. They are really nice, came pre-hung and we primed and painted them ourselves. Very happy with them. |

| Jeld Wen makes Premium Wood, Primed Engineered, Custom Carved, Moulded, and Flush doors. You need to tell us which one you're asking about. |

| Comotion, I installed Jeld-Wen custom carved pre-hung doors throughout my renovated house. I bought them from Home Depot, so they may not necessarily be "first quality" (certainly there were some quality issues with one or two of the doors, although a Jeld-Wen rep who happened to be at HD when I ordered the doors claimed that HD gets the same quality doors as the lumberyards when I pointedly asked him). Nonetheless, I'm pleased with the doors. I'm not living in the renovated house, yet, so I really haven't tested out how well they block sound. But, they were not cheap (about $225 per door, compared to $20 per off-the-rack, moulded, hollow-core door that I've seen sold at HD ), and they are darn heavy -- so much for the "lightweight core." My carpenters did not enjoy carrying them up the stairs. To sum up, Jeld-Wen's custom carved doors are solid and come in an array of designs that can't be beat. I'm told, however, that Simpson's Ovation solid MDF doors are better (also available at HD). I would have purchased Simpson Ovation for the small price differential if it had offered the door design I wanted (Jeld-Wen CC 2130). |

| Be sure to get a quote from a well established window & door dealer as well as from Home Depot. Their reputation for being the lowest price in town is not always accurate. |

| These responses are truly appreciated. Thanks so much! Overmyhead08, I'll check out the Simpson Ovation doors, and your thoughts on Jeld-Wen certainly make me feel better about their weight. Macv, sorry for the confusion, but I was looking at the Custom Carved doors. If you have any experience or thoughts, please chime in! |
