granite support question

| We are having granite tops installed Wednesday. There's a knee wall with an overhang and we have four support things to go on the wall and hold up the granite (some weird name I can't remember).
The back of those look like they should have a nail or screw head sit in a rail and hold them in place, then the weight of the granite holds them steady. IS this true? Or how are they supposed to attach? Also, I may put 3/4" OSB on the studs before the finish layer. Can I install these on the OSB or should they still be screwed into the studs?
much appreciated! |

| The bracket sounds like it has a recessed slot attachment that fits over a bolt head but it's impossible to know from your description. It should probably be attached to the granite too. |

| Yes, that's a better description of what I've got than I gave. Should this bolt have come with it? If not, do I just get a screw with a hex head an sink into the stud? |

Do you have access to the area underneath the granite and the inside wall where the corbels will hang? We recently helped DS in his kitchen remodel and since his cabinets weren't solid wood we reinforced the cabinet wall with plywood and then used lag screws, from inside the cabinet, to attach the corbels. His corbels had the recessed area on the back like yours but we just ignored it since he needed max support. If you have a stud behind every corbel you can probably use the recessed slots with the right sized screw. To prevent 'wobbling' I'd add some construction adhesive. It all depends on how much overhang you have and how strong a support you need. |
