Getting rid of the white dust film on furniture

This may seem to be off topic and to belong in the cleaning forum, but I thought you guys would be the ones with specific experience. The remodel is just about done, the final wall sanding has taken place. And, in spite of best efforts to cover the wood furniture, there is a thin white covering of dust over a lot of it. Just dusting doesn't get it off or smears it. Trying to wipe it off with Pledge just creates a hazy white film. What have you done that gets rid of the dust but doesn't smear or ruin the furniture?

Soft rag dampened with water. Fold it so it is about the length of your hand. The more folds the better---since after each swipe, you need to change surfaces---unfold and refold. When all surfaces are used once, rinse out the rag, refold and rewipe. T%he second wipe will complete the cleanup. Towels work well. Old Tshirts (no art/printing/etc. are good. As an addition---I detest Pledge. It is complete crap---leaves build ups and makes any furniture finish repair much more difficult. The old non silicon paste wax is more work----but MUCH better and you don't have to apply paste wax nearly as much---just dust with a damp rag.

After you have done what handymac suggested, I'd also call a company to come in and clean out all your ductwork. Now that winter is around the corner, anytime the furnace goes on, the construction dust in the ductwork will start blowing around. Money for that service is the best money we spent on the remodel!

A microfibre cloth dampened with water will work well also. I like them because the dust clings to the cloth. I concur, you should never put Pledge on your furniture.

I vacuum to remove most dusts. We have a central vacuum so the dust is removed from the room rather than just stirred up. We usually keep the house closed and use climate control. We change the furnace/AC filters filters often. We live in a farming area where dust can be a real issue.
