Caumartin or Lacanche?

Posted by frenchtop (My Page) on

Help me decide-Caumartin 200 or the Lacanche Sully+1??? I think I'm leaning more towards the Caumartin 200, but, just haven't been able to read enough reviews on the Caumartin as I have on the Lacanche. Does any one have a 200- if so, I'd love to hear about it and what you think about it. I love cooking on the hot plate and I love how the Caumartin has the burner offset-which allows for greater temperature flexibility. I think the Caumartin is more of a Chefs choice whereas, the Lacanche has become a design choice. I am totally remodeling my kitchen and have ample room for either-I would say I'm more interested in proformance than design, but honestly, I think either are gorgeous!

RE: Caumartin or Lacanche?

Sorry macv but there was no reference at all to the Caumartin in your suggested link nor anywhere through the search I tried. Tons on the Lacanche. I'm really looking for advice on the Caumartin if there are any owners out there?? The Caumartin is also sold in the US through Art Culinaire. See- caumartinusa.com

You are correct that there is no reference to Caumartin ranges on the GW. Which means no one has one, or no one has one and likes it. If they did, believe me you would see it mentioned. I suspect you have discovered how little known they are in North America by attempting to google Caumartin. A word of warning: the truly professional ranges operate at heat levels that trigger special building code requirements.

Could it be a spelling problem?
Are you thinking of the 'Cormatin' ? (Which is actually one of Lacanche's models)

Or perhaps La Cornue?

No, it is Caumartin. Caumartin is also sold by Art Culinaire, but is a separate French Range - more high end and not part of Lacanche. Caumartin is a true 'French' cooker with an offset french top.
