is it formica?

It's laminate. But it's Wilsonart brand. Formica is also a brand of laminate, and since it was the original, it's name has become the common name of the product, much like kleenex is for tissue

This may be even a longer shot. I moved into my house in late 2008. Can anyone identify this countertop? It too is damaged and I am looking to replace a portion of it if possible.

Forget it please. The odds of that plastic laminate having not been discontinued after 13 years are astronomical as are the odds of finding a remnant or leftover sheet.

Please post a dimensioned drawing including the damaged area and I'll tell you how screwed you are.
