Exterior house painting

We have a 50 year old two story house in silicon valley. Would like to get ideas about how to paint it to create curbside appeal. Most homes nowadays have white trims, windows, doors and white gutter/down sprouts. They don't look unattractive but they do look uniform. The trend also appears to be painting the main body of the house darker. We will welcome your comments, suggestions, ideas.

It may help everyone if you post pics. It is hard to give advice on colors without knowing the style of house.

I do agree with you on the white trim though. I get very annoyed at all the white trim out there. I think everyone does it because it matches the white vinyl windows that have also become pervasive in home building.

There is nothing wrong with trim darker than the paint color of the house. But I think it also depends greatly on the style of the house what will look good and what you can get away with.
