adding a second story to a shed roof addition

has anyone done this to their home?

we're meeting with the builder and architect together next week, having spent the past year finalising design and finances.

the plan calls for the 16x38 shed roof kitchen and mud room to be enlarged to 24x38, with a second story above.

we're not demoing the space, but building around it and saving the tiled laundry/bathroom.

i actually really like the idea that the current exterior wall will become the interior wall of the new mudroom, as if we enclosed a porch.

i'm reusing all of my marvin windows and doors, and cutting costs wherever i can. i need to buy four sliding door units for the upstairs' balconys (assuming i can afford them)

i won't need new fridges, freezers, sinks or range or hood. we'll use mostly ikea cabs, with one custom cabinet.

dh is a retired plumber and our retired and helpful neighbor an electrician, so i may just pull this off on budget.

any advice or things to point out to bring up at the meeting?

more details---

steel roof

blown foam insulation

stained board and batten siding--until i can afford cedar shakes

stained concrete floor in new mudroom

vinyl floors and laminate in kitchen

what should i be thinking of or asking next week?

thanks!
