30-35k to add 200sf of bedroom?

Builder estimates 30-35k to add 200sf of bedroom. The estimate is not broken down for us.

Basically where it says existing master closet there is a straight brick wall that goes across the back of the house. It's in the back yard, which is huge and flat with no trees in the way of the construction. We want to knock down brick wall, add 9x23 of slab and rebuild brick wall 9 feet back. The ceilings are 9 feet. The addition will be a gable attached to the back of a gable.

There will be 2 interior bedroom walls 12 feet wide built.

On the plan you'll see that the dark gray walls are the new walls.

We will add 2 new wood windows for the back brick wall.

Does 30-35 sound reasonable? We are in south Louisiana. We were hoping to stay around 25k

It's not the interior space that costs the most, although that needs electrical, insulation, and air conditioning to modern code just like the rest of the house. (Which may mean all new HVAC to deal with the extra cubic footage.) It's tieing into the rooflines, and the siding, and foundation that costs the most money. If you were doing a 200 sf shed, yes, it would be high. For an addition, it's not that high. You could probably double the size of the addition for only a small bit more. It's that first few feet where new meets old that is the most expensive.

The best way to double check pricing is competitive bidding from equally reputable and experienced licenced contractors.

Why do you want the estimate broken down? So you can shop around for cheaper trades and suppliers for bits and pieces and try to insert them into the contractor's work?

Want to save money on the build. Just have the contractor build the shell and you can diy the finish--paint, carpeting, trim, whatever you can manage.

Have you asked the contractor for ways to reduce the price.

I wanted it broken down to see where the money is going to go. But we are fine with it. I was just curious. We are doing a bunch if other stuff to the house in addition to the addition, so the total project will cost more. I just wanted to check in that portion. It is what it is. I don't think there will be too much stress on HVAC because the house has 2 units- one for front and one for back. I guess it won't stress it?
