Anyone do a copper shingle roof?

I'm curious to hear experiences pro & con regarding roofing with copper shingles. Would also welcome any takes on copper standing seam if anyone has done it. Any homeowner review of the 4 or 5 major copper shingle manufacturers' products would be great.

Aside from the obviously scary price-tag, does anyone have tips gleaned from their own experience with the material/contractors as we head into this project? Many thanks!

RE: Anyone do a copper shingle roof?

I've done a couple of copper roofs. Yup, the price has skyrocketed. A few years ago I used to buy copper sheet for a little over $2.10 a lb, for a while the price had tripled. Recently, it's still over $5 in price today. That's just for flat sheet material. Your "on the roof" cost will be substantially more.

Standing seam, I bend my own panels on a brake. I've done soldered flat roofs too.

But I've never used a manufactured "copper shingle".

low slope

Sorry...I should have written "soldered low slope roof" instead of "soldered flat roof".
