staple guns

I'm trying to reupholster an accent chair I bought off of Craigslist. It took me more than eight hours to take the old fabric off because of the 100's of staples. Now I'm trying to put new fabric on and that's where I'm running into a problem. I bought a $30 Stanley electric staple gun and after three staples I knew I'd need to return it. I've tried my manual staple gun but am having trouble getting those staples far enough into the wood and after about 20 of them, I'm already feeling it in my thumb. Is there a decent staple gun out there without having an air compressor?
