Where should the backsplash end?

Three issues regarding backsplashes.
1. On the left where you see the wire hanging down, does the backsplash just go on the BACK wall, or does it continue forward on the left wall?

2. On the right, that light switch is smack dab in the middle of the cabinet end. Would it look OK if the backsplash goes all the way to the door moulding because I don't know how to incorporate half the light switch in the backsplash (moving the switch is not an option)?

3. Do I even NEED a backsplash there?

How high and of what material is the backsplash?

Since it's not an area where you're cooking or washing, it's really not necessary to have a backsplash at all. And because of the location of the switch plate, I'd probably choose not to do a backsplash.

If you want a 4" backsplash, I'd stop it wherever the countertop ends.

Here's a photo from the KitchenBlog showing an area similar to yours and you'll see they didn't do a backsplash.

The blog has hundreds of pics so maybe you'll find more visuals that will help in your decision.

I vote for no splash for all the same reasons annz gave.
