How are you controlling humidity issues?

We're not currently controlling humidity while we're still in basic construction, i.e., putting in windows, bathroom wall, fixtures, eventually sealing the concrete floor. This will be a no-frills, one-room dwelling. Moisture will be a Big challenge here in Florida; currently we're on the second day of 4 of storming. There'll be an a/c/unit for the dwelling.

As long as you tighten up the air leakage, and control the humidity, I don't think the mold will be an issue. It needs moisture and a food source to grow. Get rid of one or both, and it won't be an issue for you.

Thank you. I did lay a caulk bead on the bottom of the siding outside. I guess I can assume that Kilz on the interior of the siding (once the mold is cleaned off) will be okay.

Kilz is not usually a vapor barrier. What will you use to prevent moisture from entering through the building materials?

That's precisely why I'm here; need good input. The original builder left it bare & put up insulation. Should I be placing plastic sheeting in each stud bay- or what?

I do not know what is common in Florida and my understanding is that it differs based on the location in the country and the type of climate. My climate (PNW) is nothing like FL... I'm hoping someone with knowledge will chime in, but if no one else does, ask this question in the HVAC forum. I think you should find someone there with knowledge on home building/air sealing/vapor barriers.

You could also contact the local inspector and ask what is required in your area--vapor barrier on the exterior? On the interior? Or...?
