Washer/dryer during remodel

We're planning a major remodel (extending existing 2d story, removing walls downstairs to create better flow, gutting kitchen). We're hoping to stay in the house during the remodel and I'm still trying to figure out the feasibility of that.

Our laundry room is moving upstairs and so our washer/dryer will be inaccessible during the remodel. Is there a small, stacked combo that we can buy to use during the remodel that won't require special hook ups, or maybe that does require hook ups but that won't cost a lot to install? I have 3 kids so being able to do laundry at home during the remodel would be a major plus.

OMG! That is the tiniest little washer!
I think I'd decide to just go to the laundromat. And, I'd ask my contractor to make the time between when your old one goes away and when your new one can be placed to be a minimal timeframe...

(I have 2 hookups--original one downstairs and new one upstairs. Any chance you can keep your hookup/drain downstairs until your upstairs one is operational? Even if there are no walls to have them "in a room")?

Mother had a washer that hooked up to the kitchen faucet (like a portable dishwasher does). It was big enough for a set of sheets, and a couple of towels, plus little things. The dryer was the same size and just plugged into the wall. There was sort sort of filter over the dryer vent. She had those two machines for at least 10 years and worked fine for her and my farmer father....lots of dirty clothes. She just rolled them to a far wall between washing. I think they were either Kenmore or GE.

Thank you for the responses, the info provided is really helpful. I had no idea that washers existed where I could simply hook them up to the sink faucet. Even if the machines are small, I'd still prefer that vs hauling the kids to the laundromat and hanging out for hours. I'll have to go check out the machines in person and hopefully find some used ones on craigslist.

Do you have a full service laundromat in your area? One where you drop off your clothes, and THEY launder and fold?

We did have one of those local but I think it went out of business during the economic meltdown. I'll have to check into that, that's another great idea.

I just checked out the machines that Handymac recommended and those Haier machines get great reviews. I wish I had known about those during my apartment dwelling days! I think those could work perfectly for us during our remodel, we have a large bathroom upstairs that won't be touched during the remodel so I think they'll work great in there.
