I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to do with this floor plan to open up the first floor a bit.

Our first idea, which seems to require the least amount or renovation, is to simply open up the wall between the kitchen and the dining room a few feet and turn the maid's quarters into a butler's pantry or first floor laundry.

The positioning of the bathroom however is a little awkward. It doesn't really need to be a full bath and it doesn't seem to be the best place to enter the bathroom. There is a pool right out the back door, so maybe that is a good location for a bathroom?

We also don't really need the maid's quarters or a pantry, but aren't sure how we could modify the space other than simply changing the purpose of the room.

Any other ideas how the layout could be modified to open it up more? We aren't looking to do anything major like move a staircase, but we'd be willing to take down walls, install headers, etc.
