Cutout in wall to recess TV, how to run power?

We're going to mount a 32" TV in the Master Bath wall during our remodel. 1.9" thick TV plus 1.3" thick mount is 3.2" deep. This should fit in the 2x4 wall cavity just about right. This is on an interior non-insulated wall.

We'll make the hole 2" larger than the TV on all sides for ventilation. Is this enough space?

The other big question is how do I run power to the TV? I can't mount the jack behind the TV as this would come out on the other side of the wall which is the commode room. I could mount the jack on one of the side walls of the cutout but then you would see the cord since the frame is 2" larger than the TV.

Not sure of what to do.

Are you making the cavity for your TV? If so, the wall will probably be open during construction......could you run the wire from the TV, out the back of the cavity, through the wall and down to an ajacent wall socket? You would only see the wire coming out of the wall and plugging into the socket...

The other side of the cavity is the commode room.

It would certainly help if you could post a link to a PDF for the appliance and the mounting assembly you are contemplating using.

When I said through the wall I meant down inside the wall, though I am not sure that would work if you wanted to take the TV down at a later date....unplugging it would be about impossible. I think I would mount the jack on the side of the cavity as you mentioned.....you probably would not even notice the 2" of cord.

You haven't even thought of how the mounting bracket will attach to the wall.

There is only a single thickness of sheetrock, no studs to screw into.

You need to rethink this entire plan through.

What value are you going to achieve by recessing the TV into a 3" deep wall cavity? This is an important thing to know. It may be the case, that another concept will provide the same value, but at a lower cost or effort.

First, figure out how to hang the thing.

There are many ways to conceal wires.

Keep in mind that electrical receptacles must be accessible. You can't hide one inside a wall.

We're nixing the idea. We are going to face the bathtub towards the glass shower now so we won't be mounting the TV inside of a wall cutout. This was if the tub was facing away from the glass shower. Now I'm thinking about using a lift to raise and lower the TV on a raised ledge that is on the side of the bathtub, underneath a window.

A TV in the bathroom........

I can understand a phone because that call you were expecting always comes once you take the seat of ease.

Have we really evolved to the point where we can't be away from media long enough to take a shower or a dump?

I'll have to ponder on this.
