The first house appears to be older than 1980s. The pitch of the roof and the angled clerestory windows make it more of a mid-century modern home, ca. 1955 - 1970. The second home does look early-mid 1980s to me, with the higher-pitch roof.

I think you need to explain what you mean by "remodeled or more contemporary." Interiors Exteriors? Finishes? Rooflines? Can you post a picture of what you're wanting?

I'm one to stick with what the house is. I.e., not try to totally remake the home into something it isn't -- particularly if it is a home that has some pretty strong stylistic features like these do. If your personal tastes run to something very much different from what these homes are, I would recommend continuing your search until you find something that you really love rather than something you're not sure how to change.

These strongly gabled "modern" houses are usually called "Contemporary" rather than "Ranch". Most were built between 1940 and 1980. They were influenced by the Craftsman and Prairie Styles.

I would like to see interiors and exteriors. Example for the exteriors would be how does stucco look, different wood siding, different color or just stained wood color etc...For interiors, since these homes have very sharp ceiling lines and high ceilings also. Would like to see how people work with that. No changing of roof lines etc... I like the house , but just want to update these.
