Typical cost to install tile on a bathroom wall

I was quoted $3,600.00 to "waterproof, lathe, float & install tile on shower walls - including 1 recessed soap niche".

This does NOT include the cost of the tile. It is about 120 square feet of wall space. Does that seem like a fair price?

Tile itself is the least costly material in a tiling job. the cost is in the bonding materials and the required substrate behind the tile, cement board usually Durock.

Labour is higher as only one person at a time can work in the shower and is time consuming. All full walls including ceiling? effects price.

What do you mean by waterproof, lathe?

Regardless $30.00 per square foot is high, again depending on many factors.

We pay about $3/ft here in Texas for tile to go in. Larger jobs like floors can be $2/ft

If they are using something like Kerdi to waterproof, it isnt cheap and runs about $2/ft, max $3/ft with thinset. If using Kerdi, they are using drywall, no cement board.

Id do the job for $1000

SouthernCanuck is right. Labor is much more costly than the actual tile.

We thought we were saving $ in going with porcelain tile instead of granite for our kitchen, but it costs even more! Part of that is the design of the backsplash which is complicated.

It also depends what the market will bear in your location.

I'd get a few bids and ask to see examples of their other jobs.
