Adding a patio door

I'm considering adding french patio doors at the end of our living room. There is currently no frame or even a window there. Since this is an exterior wall, I know that I will need to temporarily brace the above wall while I'm working on the new header and door frame. All the projects show the bracing (jacks or 2x4) going on the ceiling. So here's my problem, the living room has a vaulted ceiling (20 ft). How should this be braced?

How wide is the proposed door set?
Do the rafters/beams extend beyond the wall, on the exterior?
Is the vaulted ceiling open beam or finished drywall?

Copy the ceiling slope angle to a 10' 4x4 and rip it. Screw the angled 4x to the ceiling (steel, not drywall screws) at the rafters about 3' in front of where the new opening is to be cut. Spaced evenly, place (2) 1' squares of 3/4" plywood on the floor, place a screw jack on each, and install a 4x from the top of the jacks to the bottom of the 4x screwed to the rafters. Plumb the 4x's, screw them to the top 4x, and snug the jacks.
