I'm a big fan of large porches. Maybe have the porch extended to the length of the house. New steps would help too.

Can we get a pic of the entire yard/house from the street?

Agreed, the small window looks very awkward. The steps are brick that were painted some time ago. I also do not like the tree located on the left end of the house. I have no idea what kind it is, but would prefer something else - don't know what. And a new color for the house would be nice.

This is another angle of the house.

There are three things that immediately stand out to me. The small window which seems to throw off the balance. The overgrown evergreen on the right. The crooked pine tree in the back.

I'm wondering if a large flowering shrub, lilac for example, could be planted at the left corner to hide some of the blank wall.

I could see extending the porch to the right corner. Come to think of it, as jcalhoun suggests, a porch along the entire front might smooth out the asymmetry. Look at the following before and after:

That is exactly what I had pictured.

Ok, the window can be enlarged and the evergreen can be taken out. The pine you see is in a neighbor's yard. Now for the porch. Should it be done as in your picture? The roof line is different on my house and I think it would need rails because of the height of the porch. I still don't like the color of the house and was thinking of a grey color. What do you think?

Can a window be added to the right of door, maybe add a stone veneer to the foundation and carry that stone into your porch. Widen porch to left side of double windows your stuck with that gable roof unless you did a pergola?style roof that wouldn't be rain proof

Looks like the roof is grey (vs. black) and the steps and foundation were painted a pea green while the house is painted a cream color with beige trim and railings. To me it doesn't work - a cool vs. warm clash, especially the roof/siding-trim. If the roof isn't being replaced, I agree, grey for the house would be nice. You'd have to get a pro to design a porch. Granted, the picture has a different roof line that wouldn't work for you but a pro could design it so a long porch would work.. If you replaced the small window with a bigger one you could go with a small porch as you have or even extended slightly to the right, with nicer materials and finish.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will post this on the landscapes forum..good idea. I like the idea of a porch that runs the full length..but need to get estimates for that to be done. Otherwise, if having the small window replaced and the porch extended to the right would give me a look that I like, that might be the best thing to do. Opinions?
