how to visually tie 1989 monster garage to day ranch house

we are thinking about buying this place. 1950's day ranch with cedar siding, 1989 monster garage with t-111 siding. ugly ugly ugly. garage has studio apt on upper level. tiny windows, french doors (unfinished) above garage door. they were planning to add a deck above garage doors. Thoughts on how to visually tie these together?

What would your budget be for improving the exterior? Would you be willing to re-size windows? Change siding?, particularly on the garage?
