Pre-finished hardwood versus finished on site

Hi all,

We are trying to decide on our hardwood floor. We are down to two high quality engineered floors. We are heavily leaning towards engineered floors due to radiant heat below. My question today is whether to spend the extra to have the floors finished on site or buy a pre-finished one (finished on site will cost 50% more)? If the floors are finished on site, the gap between boards will be eliminated by coating, etc. The hardwood is going in dining room, kitchen and great room, so food spills are an issue. The floor we are looking at for pre-finished has virtually no gap -- the tightest seal between two boards I have seen in pre-finished hardwood (brand Generations). The flooring contractor who finishes on site uses a product called Launsken (spelling?). Both floors are 3/4" thick, solid sawn and 3-ply.

What do you think? What has been your experience?
