I'd like to remodel the fireplace in my new home and not sure if changing tile to stone is the right decision. I love stone fireplaces and have had them in the past. I received an estimate which i think is reasonable, but need advice on design.

I've included some pics. we have not painted or re carpeted yet. the tile matches the current floor tile, which will be changed to wood look tile.

My thoughts were to replace glass and spray brass to black, rip out the current mantle and replace with a dark stained wooden mantle, same length, and then light colored cultured stone fireplace.

I'd appreciate any advice/guidance!
