I'm going to remove the wallpaper from our downstairs bath and have the walls plastered (to match the rest of the house) in a "sand swirl" pattern, then painting them.
After I remove all the wallpaper & paste residue, what further prep needs to be done before new plaster coat goes on? Primer?
Another question - I'd like to remove the ceramic toothbrush holder & soap dish stuck into the wall with grout. After I remove them, can the wall be patched with pieces of drywall prior to plastering so you won't see any repairs? I'm having a pro do the plastering & any drywall patching.

I'd leave any wall prep before plastering up to your plasterer. This way he gets the blame if anything goes wrong.

Again, I'd have the drywaller remove the toothbrush holder an soap dish. Every contractor wants to do it his own way. If he's any good at all, the patches should be highly inconspicuous if not undetectable.

Well, I definitely want the patches to be undetectable! Just didn't know if that was asking too much. I'm planning to have wainscoting on the bottom half of the room, I guess if he does a lousy patch job I can raise the wainscot to 4' to cover it.
