date my kitchen

These are the original steel cabinets for this kitchen. I am trying to date them. When was this red swag painting style popular. Family history says 1940 but county records show they first collected taxes in '49. County records do not show when this house was built. Houses built before 1948 were built unpermitted as ours was. I have done much research and am at a dead end.

Can you post a picture of your cabinets? Door handles often help ID the cabinetmaker. Do you see any labels, typically interior on cabinet or hidden on the underside of a pullout metal drawer?

Do you know about Retro Renovations? It's a blog about older homes, includes older 1940's kitchen information. There is a steel cabinet forum which is very active: http://retrorenovation.com/forums/
