Need help with wood species for interior doors

I could really use some advice on interior doors. I'm replacing old solid wood doors with TruStile raised two-panel doors. Even though I will be painting, I only want solid wood.

Trustile lists poplar as the paint-grade wood they and I assume it's the least expensive. While I know I don't need a very expensive stain-grade wood, I would like to have a nice-quality sturdy door.

I've read that Poplar may be too soft and dent easily. Is this the case? What other species -- except Pine as I'm worried knots will eventually show through -- would give me a nice quality wood door with a somewhat reasonable price that will feel sturdy?

Thanks so much!!!
