Laminated glass on door---worth it?

I am replacing my full view (big pane of glass) entry door that faces my back yard. The standard door comes with tempered glass and it cost $1000 more to get it with laminated glass. I've heard that laminated glass is essentially unbreakable, and I've heard different things about the tempered---one company said it take so much pressure to break through that it is very difficult and would take a long time and so would be safe from a break in, another said it's not so hard to break through. My sliding patio door (faces same yard) is tempered, which I thought (based on the comment that it was pretty hard to break) was very safe, but now I am not so sure.
Is it worth the extra 1000 to get the laminated glass on the back door I am getting?

RE: Laminated glass on door---worth it?

How safe is your neighborhood? Are you subject to potential high wind events? The answers to those two questions will determine the upgrade's "worth" to you.
