RECIPE: Sauce for Meat

Years ago my Grandmother use to do a lot of canning. There was one particular sauce she use to make that accompanied meat or chicken, served cold. I distinctly remember she got the recipe from a a Mormon friend. I've looked on line but nothing sounds quite like what was in her recipe.

It was a thick sauce, made of ripe tomatoes, onions, apple cider vinegar and had a wonderful sweet flavor. I have never tasted anything like it since. I don't know what kind of spices were in it, but hoping maybe if there are any Mormon ladies out there, someone will know the recipe I'm referring to. Thank you.
