RECIPE: Date Balls

I had these the other day and there are very tasty for such a simple recipe. Enjoy

Date Balls

1 c sugar
c butter
Dash of salt
1 c chopped dates
1 egg, beaten
1 c chopped pecans
2 c Rice Krispies cereal
Heat first three ingredients over low heat until butter is melted. Add dates and beaten egg and bring to boil. Boil 5 minutes; stirring constantly. Cool. Add pecans and cereal. Form ball
1 inches in diameter or spread into a 9x9 pan. Roll in coconut or sprinkle coconut on top of pan. Makes 3 dozen

OMG! My stepmom used to make these every Xmas...haven't had them in over 30 yrs..will definitely make them..thanks for the memories!

My mother used to make this for me when I was a teenager. The difference was that she rolled it in a log form, sprinkled it with powdered sugar, and wrapped it in plastic wrap, and kept it in the refrigerator. You them just cut off slices...if you can keep it that long.
