I have a recipe that uses a can of sweet/cond milk that has to be cooked in a water bath for two hours (YES two hours). It comes out like pourable caramel. Can anyone suggest a replacement that wouldn't need to be cooked?

How about pourable caramel...like icecream topping. Or Ann T's caramel sauce. 2 sticks of butter, cup of heavy cream. cup of white sugar, cup of brown sugar...melt and cook, stirring constantly for 5 to 6 minutes...add 1 tsp vanilla... Ta DA!! Caramel sauce. Linda C

I haven't tried it myself, but if your grocery has an international food area you may find a can of dulce de leche in the Hispanic foods. I believe it is the same. Ann T's caramel sauce is wonderful though! Didn't have the same texture when I made it, so that may affect your end product.

The canned dulce de leche is available in Walmart in my area. In the food section where all the hispanic foods are. I bought it when I saw it but have not decided what I want to do with it yet.
