LOOKING for: Replacement for cooked condensed milk
| | |
Posted by cuffs054 (My Page) on Tue, Nov 10, 09 at 15:20
| I have a recipe that uses a can of sweet/cond milk that has to be cooked in a water bath for two hours (YES two hours). It comes out like pourable caramel. Can anyone suggest a replacement that wouldn't need to be cooked? |

How about pourable caramel...like icecream topping. Or Ann T's caramel sauce. 2 sticks of butter, cup of heavy cream. cup of white sugar, cup of brown sugar...melt and cook, stirring constantly for 5 to 6 minutes...add 1 tsp vanilla... Ta DA!! Caramel sauce. Linda C |

| I haven't tried it myself, but if your grocery has an international food area you may find a can of dulce de leche in the Hispanic foods. I believe it is the same. Ann T's caramel sauce is wonderful though! Didn't have the same texture when I made it, so that may affect your end product. |

| The canned dulce de leche is available in Walmart in my area. In the food section where all the hispanic foods are. I bought it when I saw it but have not decided what I want to do with it yet. |
