Rock salt IS what you use for a snow storm. I can buy it in the grocery store for use in making ice cream or for use in baking or for melting snow.
It is just a rather impure coarsly broken up salt.
If you cook beef on a bed of rock salt, what happens to all those good juices?

Usually it's on the very bottom shelf where salt & spices are kept in the grocery store. It's also used to encase food items to form a crust that keeps the moisture in while cooking.

Although i love the juices this recipe is finished with a wine and gorgonzola cream sauce. I always thought rock salt was toxic..you learn something every day! Thanks

Rock salt is toxic....so it table salt. It will kill yor grass and render the soil sterile of you use too much....and it will kill you if you ingest too much.
And water will do the same thing.
Salt is NaCl...period.
Rock salt has some impurities, sea salt some minerals, table salt some anti caking ingredients....but it's all primarily salt.
