RECIPE: Question about Cumin

For those of us who don't care for cumin, which seems to be in so many dishes these days, is there a substitute that can be used successfully? TIA

RE: RECIPE: Question about Cumin

Make the recipe without cumin, taste it, and add whatever you like - depending on the type of food. It may need nothing at all or perhaps some chili powder - something with a smoky taste associated with cumin. I have a seasoning mixture called Pinto Bean Seasoning that is a combination of garlic, onion, chili pepper, spices, and salt, I often use as a substitute spice in rice dishes, chicken, etc. I like the flavor of the whole mix.

Another thought is to just use a lot less of the spice, so it's just a slight undertone, not a full-blown flavor. I rarely use the amounts indicated in recipes. I add a little, and then add more if necessary.

This isn't like substituting onion with something that is similar in flavor - shallots, chives, green onions, dried onions, etc., so try some things you DO like. Go for it!
