As long as the inspection companies are certified and licensed by the state in mold, foundations,etc., I would have no problem buying the house. As long as the reports came back fine and it was a house I loved. Go for it. I would use the basement problems as a bargaining chip when making an offer on the house if you get that far down the road. NancyLouise

Was the outside of the block wall properly sealed as part of the remediation?

If the basement has stayed dry for years it's probably fine.

Competence on the part of your inspector beats the heck out of "certified and licensed by the state"; try to get multiple recommendations and check references--there are no shortage of charlatans in the dry basement business. State licensing often means only that they paid the fee and perhaps passed a 20 question multiple choice exam..

If the repairs were done properly and there are no new problems with the foundation and basement, I'd be okay. Ask to see the records for the work done and let the inspectors know about your particular concerns so they are aware of the history and so they can tell you what they can determine and what they can't -- then you need to decide if that's enough to make you comfortable.

How old is the house, and what are the basements walls/foundation made of. Is there sump pumps and outside drain pipes? How long ago were the repairs made and were permits obtained if needed from the city/county.
