Wow! Talk about clutter. Some former coworkers of mine have their house for sale in Fort Collins, CO, and almost all the pictures show cluttered rooms. They do have three kids under 6, but still you think they'd pick up for the photos.

This one kills me. The house is beautiful, but it's in a small southern town and overpriced for the location. The realtor has 15 pictures up. Aside from some decor issues with wallpaper, until this picture, everything screamed perfect.

All of the pictures are from different houses, but the same realtor. Someone should send her a photography for dummies book and/or a list of helpful tips when creating listings.

There was a house down the street -- I don't know all of the circumstances, but it was a short sale. Maybe it was a rental, and the tenants weren't happy. Anyway, the photos were shocking. A side yard full of dog waste. Clothes piled all over the floor in the cluttered bathroom. Hideous glow-in-the dark colors everywhere. Dirty kitchen. I wondered what the agent's point was in posting such photos -- to scare off anyone who wasn't serious? It did sell -- the moveout was amazing! Ugh!

What was going on in their heads when they took that bathroom photo?

I don't understand why an agent would take pictures of messy rooms. I know I was very disappointed when my agent took pictures of my laundry baskets on top of my washer and for heavens sakes my purse sitting on my built in desk in my kitchen. Get real. How hard is it to move something - or hey not a take a picture of a messy room and clutter.

But I see it all the time in the pictures of houses that we are looking at. Bedrooms with clothes piled on the floor, beds unmade. And they wonder why the house won't show, much less sell.

maybe i am missing somethign, but what is wrong with teh ceiling fan? in my area a fan in every room is just about required. we have 9 Cf in the house, and probably will put one in the front living room. it is old style southern and the formal living room has NO overhead lighting, jsut a couple of switched outlets for lamps.

That ceiling fan would be pretty standard for my area, also.

None of the things in those pictures are as bad as the desk top, exec-type, porno toy and pictures of scantily clad females on display in one house my realtor and I looked at!!! To add to the wonderful "staging", the rest of the house was decorated to overflowing with Harley Hog memorabilia!

We really did question the advice the listing agent had given the seller on that one, lol.

The funniest thing about the ceiling fan picture is that it looks as if the fan is still and the windows are moving.
Remember that picture from oh, maybe a year or two ago that showed a lovely living room, with a big window to the backyard, through which you could see two dogs in a mating position?

I know what a ceiling fan looks like. That there are ceiling fans is what the comments are for. I'd usually like more photo's of something else. Like the yard or kitchen.
What about the listings with NO photo's but comments?
Or alternatively, no comments at all but photos?
If I wasn't so tired of the MLS I'd find the listing with all the photos of individual things in the garden including the little ceramic frog sitting in a patch of dirt.
Oh, and what's the deal with those little octagonal windows? Seems no realtor can resist posting one of those. There may be no picture of the kitchen but there is a blank wall with a little round window.
It doesn't seem to me that many realtors get mentored by someone more experienced. Or, the experienced ones are jus as daft.

That photo ONLY shows the ceiling fan. It doesn't get you a good look at the entire room. You can't see the floor.

There is nothing wrong with ceiling fans - there is one in almost every room of our house (kitchen, living room, dining room, bedrooms). However, ceiling fans are what I consider disposable. I don't care if the house I'm interested in has a ceiling fan that's so ugly it kicks in my gag reflex - it can be replaced in under an hour when we move in.

The picture of the ceiling fan only shows me that if I was to buy the house, I'd be replacing that fan asap since it looks older and cheap. But since I can't see any of the room I wouldn't even bother to look at the house that belongs to said picture, especially if there were a plethora of houses with pictures showing the actual rooms. Instead of showing a positive, I'm left thinking that the room was so awful that the only decent picture they could get was of a cheap older ceiling fan.

Maybe not post the pic of the person sleeping on the floor of the living room on the MLS.
