I never sew my edges till the last because, like you said, the fabric moves and it will pucker. I pin it as if sewn but end up often moving the pins as I go.

I sew the edges using my walking foot right before I'm ready to sew on the binding. And, I use a larger stitch, more like 4.0 size instead of 2.5. I find this makes the edge more stable and prevents the top edge from moving along and making creases/puckers as the binding is sewn on. I hate to get to this point in making a quilt just to have issues with the edge "migrating" while sewing on the binding.

Here's another perspective: I don't sew that step. I will trim my quilt and then add the binding. And I rarely have a problem with the edge migrating or puckering.

I don't sew that step either. I do it the same way Jennifer stated. I use the walking foot to attach the binding and don't have any problems.

I definitely sew a line (stay stitch) on a pieced border or a quilt with no borders after quilting and before binding. It helps to keep the pieced edges from separating after trimming or squaring the quilt.
I would consider sewing the same line before quilting if the quilt had a lot of small pieces or bias edges - just to stabilize during handling and quilting.
