Charity Doll Quilts, My Guild's latest efforts

Hi Folks,

My Guild passed on a request for quilts for this effort, so here's a few things I've just done.

A pieced top I was asked to finish off & given fabric for (this nice, brilliant blue).

Its reverse

It's the first I've ever birthed myself, like pillowcase & then turned inside out (no bindings) that IS what that's called, right?

(Sadly I forgot to smooth out the middle back, but it's a doll quilt, right?)

Another that came together from several orphan blocks, nice to put them to good use.

A donated backing fabric matched nicely.

I like to see this view as well; very cool seeing the front & back together.

Then lastly, this Disappearing 4 Patch whose tutorial I found on line a while back. Experimenting w/charm blocks I refer to as 'unfortunately colored'. This is fun to play with.

Didn't have enough border fabric to make binding, so I used this reversible binding I know, w/ blue on the front & pink on the back.

The donated back fabric wasn't quite large enough, so I pieced a strip down the back to make what I needed.

I make mostly larger, wall hanging size quilts, it's been very nice to complete a number of small things. Guess I really need to work on finishing a few more things; finishing feels sooooo good!

Those little quilts are great for using up small pieces of fabric, too. Do they give away dolls with the quilts?

Those little quilts are so rewarding! That's one reason I like doing 'minis'.

In this case, it'll also be rewarding for the recipient as well!

Very nice! Someone will really love them. My guild did a teddy bear challenge last year...we bought or made a bear and made a quilt to go with it.

Nice job! Finishing anything gives a nice feeling! Some little girls are going to be very happy you made these doll quilts.

And, yes, I call that procedure birthing. :-)

Yes, a good effort, we're told this particular charity gives American Girl dolls to girls who have been abused & so they've asked for the doll blankets to give as well or with them. Sweet idea, am happy to help & yes, it's a great use of nice sized scraps.

Like the sweet sounding teddy bear idea mentioned above. This group I'm told also gives Teddy Bears, to the Boys who've been abused.

I show the backs of quilts 'cause I often do something on their back, experiment or play, if I've got the fabric I sometimes can't resist. To me, it's a blank canvas I guess.

I often wish I could see the back of peoples' quilts, it matters to me.

But I must admit, I thought about this & I don't recollect any doll blankets at all. I learned to sew as a little girl, making doll clothes, a whole wardrobe full, I still have them too, interesting to look at them 50 yrs. later.
