Quilt hoarder????

I'm not a collector or a shopper. I try to use my scraps whenever possible (especially because I am still learning to quilt and don't want to put tons of money into something lacking in workmanship). So in other words, I try to be frugal in many things.

Why then did I say "yes" when my friend emailed there was another Amish quilt buried in piles of aghans that I had missed at the garage sale? So that makes 4 quilts I bought from the sale. I still don't have three of them, but she emailed pics of the one to see if I wanted it. It is so pretty, and I love scrappy, so how could I say no?

She emailed this opportunity to DH, whom I hadn't gotten around to telling I had bought two more and he seems a little confused by her email, but I ignored him and he probably thinks he misunderstood the email. He will find out next week or so when we have dinner with them and she hands me three quilts and I hand her a check. Good thing I don't normally spend a lot of money! LOL

Oh my! That is a beautiful Dresden Plate--I am loving the quilting. It appears from your pix that the quilt is pristine. Wonderful acquisition. Great friend to offer such treasure instead of keeping for herself.

It's a beautiful quilt, but I don't think it's Amish. I believe the Amish only use solid colors. Do you know how old it is?

What a find. I'd have bought it, too. I have a few that turned up in friends things that are in poor condition but I save them all. I even bought pieces at a thrift store cut from an antique quilt. I can't seem to pass these kinds of things by. I'm definitely a quilt hoarder. My daughter will have to deal with all this some day. I do put a tag on them so she will know they aren't from a family member.

The Amish only use plain colors for themselves, but they use all the other fabrics for quilts to sell. I don't know how old it is. The only one I can date is the one they had commissioned for their 50th wedding annv. I was thinking of making a label and putting on that one since it is known and so special. It may be a king since my friend said they put it on a queen and it hung down quite a bit, but her parents didn't have a king bed, so I'll have to wait until I get it.

It is so pretty! I have 2 Dresden Plate quilt tops waiting to be quilted. It is my favorite!

Oh, Bev, definitely label the 50th anniversary quilt! I made a quilt for my parents' 50th. I sent muslin squares out to their family & friends and asked people to decorate them as they chose. Of course, they all had to go into the quilt, and I added pieced blocks in between, so the finished quilt is HUGE! LOL Way over king size. When I gave it to them my dad asked if I intended to tent their house with it. :)
